One time I wondered why Unicorns are predisposed for Magic and how could it work "internally" inside their bodies, according to what we know in our world. And I imagined that those horns are placed in the point where the Third Eye chakra is located. It works like a waveguide for magical energy: it gathers it from the inside of their bodies (through the spine, center of their brains, the pineal gland, and straight to the horn), and then it's concentrated as the horn gets thinner, to leave it ultimately in the direction the horn is pointed at
Then I wondered if it's possible for other ponies (non-unicorns) to use Magic in some limited way (as long as they're not equiped with horns by Mother Nature). And I thought that they might use some crystals or other external devices as waveguides for their magical energy to concentrate it and amplify. Crystals are good energy transformers, they can multiply or divide the frequency, make modulations, resonators etc. So I was just that close from inventing artificial horn :-D But now I see it already made by someone, and this is amazing
